Flagship Cup Tournament
The U11 and U14 Boys, plus the U11, U14, U16, and U17 Girls all recently participated in the Flagship Cup in Erie PA.  The tournament, as always, was well run and everything went smoothly.  The U11, and U14 Boys, and the U14, U16, and U17 Girls all U16 advanced into the semi-final stage of the competition.  The heat and lack of subs played its toll and three teams advanced into the final stages of the tournament.  The U14 Boys ended up as overall runner-up while the U14 and U17 Girls came out as the eventual champions.  The six teams played extremely well and the players and families had a most enjoyable weekend.

U17 Girls National Indoor Champions
Nil satis nisi optimum, Nil satis nisi optimum, Nil satis nisi optimum, 1-2-3 Cobras!!!!!!!  Was the resounding chant that reverberated around the indoor facilities in Baltimore this weekend as the U17 Girls claimed their biggest tournament win to date; the U17 Indoor National Championship.  Every game was both exciting and nerve wracking as the girls fell behind by one or two goals in every game, including the championship game!  The level of play was top drawer as the girls systematically wore down every team and clinically put them all away in a most entertaining manner.  We had three lines that were rotated evenly throughout the weekend and every player contributed to the victories.  It was a great deal of fun for the players and parents alike and hopefully, this is the first of many more major tournament wins.  Laura Arnold had a fabulous tournament in nets making tremendous saves in every game.  We had eight different players score goals; with goals coming from our defenders, midfielders, and attackers.  The final was incredibly intense and exciting as the lead went back and forth between the teams.  In the last thirty seconds with the game tied at 3-3 things were looking bleak for the Cobras as the Aztecs had a five V’s three break away.  Two of our players, Kaitie and Cassie, had both been fouled and were still lying on the ground in our attacking third while the Aztecs attacked.  Incredibly, we won the ball and played it quickly to Cassie who had picked herself up.  With twenty seconds on the clock Cassie buried the ball past the keeper to give the U17’s the National Championship!  A most euphoric moment for all the Cobra players and parents as we all knew the game was won.

The top scorers for the tournament were Kaitie with seven and Kori with five, and both girls had hat-tricks.

Yeah Baby!

Game 1 v. Boston Aztec, 8-2 Win Ronni 1, Kara 1, Cassie 1, Kaitie 2, Kori 3

Game 2 v. SAC United, 6-2 Win Cassie 1, Kori 1, Steph 1, Kaitie 3

Game 3 v. MDSC Santos, 5-3 Win Emily 1, Steph 1, Cassie 1, Kaitie 1, Ardyn 1

Championship Game v. Boston Aztec, 4-3 Win Kori 1, Ardyn 1, Kaitie 1, Cassie 1

Cleveland Cup Results

The Cleveland Cup proved to be an exciting weekend for the Cobras with two teams ending as Champions, the U17 Black and the U16's. Another Cobra team, the U17 Red Team came in as runner up after sudden death overtime. The U17 Black Team won their second successive tournament with four impressive wins. They outscored their opponents by 12 goals to 3 and truly dominated the whole tournament. The U16 Team won their first tournament in a while with a most impressive display of attacking soccer.  They outscored their opponents   by 10 goals to 2 and really got their game together.  The final was so exciting as the young Cobras battled back to win 3-1 in the final game with two cracking goals by Megan Bellamy.  The U17 Red Team also advanced to the   finals and stubbornly continued to keep coming back after continually falling behind. The final score was 3-3 and we eventually lost during a sudden death 3v3.  The U15 girls won one game and lost two; however, remarkably, Joanne Bondra who defends for the team scored all five of the team's goals.  Congratulations Jo! The U14's slipped up during the first two games letting the lead slip in both games; however, they bounced right back on Sunday and convincingly beat the remaining two teams. The U18 girls, the old stalwarts of the club bowed out with a 1-2 record. Testing, dancing, and injuries reduced our numbers; even so, the girls played well all weekend.

Welcome to our club Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie!

Paris and Nicole Spot Cobras

As Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were passing through Baltimore International Airport at the weekend they spotted a group of Cobras on their way home after playing in the National Indoor Finals.  Although the Cobra girls were tired, being the good sports that they are, they took time out to pose with Paris and Nicole. After signing autographs for the Super Models, the Cobras promised both Paris and Nicole that they would get the photo on the Cobra Website for them; Paris and Nicole, welcome to the Cobra Family!

PARENT EXPECTATIONS
1.DO NOT instruct players from the sidelines, leave the instructions to the coaching staff. Shouting instructions to players (only confuses them with information often times contradictory to what the coach is instructing).
2.LEAVE the officiating to the referees! Don't embarrase your son/daughter, the club, or yourself by making comments or gestures to any of the referees!
3.ENCOURAGE all the players (not just your own); compliment & cheer rather than critique & ridicule. If you have to shout, then either yell into your arm or better - wait until you get home and yell at the dog.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS
Soccer Player
1. EARLY is on time; on time is late
2. PAY ATTENTION to your coaches! Training sessions are the classroom; match day is your exam! The information coaches are giving you is needed to win the match.
3. WORK HARD all the time; Push yourself & push your teammates to work hard!
4. Training is what you do with your team; practice is what you do on your own (SELF-TRAIN throughout the year by running, juggling, dribbling shooting etc.)
5. Be PREPARED; make sure you have everything you need before leaving for your training sessions and matches {BOTH uniforms, extra socks, water, boots, a properly filled ball for your age level etc.}
6. LEAVE the officiating to the referee!
7. If you're going to 'Cryoff' for a training session or MORE importantly a Match - notify your team manager as early as possible.
8. "Fair Play" - at all times! Sportmanship is witnessed by everyone on the pitch.
9. Compliment & praise rather than complain & ridicule teammates and opponents.
10. Eat nutritiously (you are athletes in training); therefore, stay away from the "junk food"!
